Paid but didn’t fish – Ken Repine Meeting Adjourned at 7:02 pm Sincerely, Ron Fairbanks Lake Jordan Tournament Summary Excitement was in the air
as 22 members and 8 guests headed up to Wetumpka Al to fish
what many consider one of the most anticipated events of the
season. While we missed the spawn on Seminole in March,
the fish were starting to bed with water temps in the high 50’s
to mid 60’s as the tournament started. Other
than the pollen which made breathing challenging for some and
covered the shallows which made the beds harder to see, the
fish were in a biting mood. We were greeted at the ramp
by around 125 tournament boats which but due to our clubs get
there early mentality we were able to watch the fiasco from
the water and all were in well before blast off.
Looking a mile or so north towards Bonners ramp, we expected
another 75-100 boats and saw what looked like the entrance to
Disneyworld in the early dawn with enough headlights to make
you rethink running north?
Mack let us go a bit earlier than usual to assist us
getting through the gauntlet.
I left for a 15 mile run north and it was interesting
running through nearly 30-40 boats already in blast off mode
from the 4-5 tournaments and once through it, was at my first
spot with time to spare. At the first day weigh in,
many shared suggestions on what worked and didn’t which gave
some a new game plan for day 2!
Some caught their fish on beds, and most worked the shorelines
with worms, rouges, top water and flukes.
It became obvious that day 2 was going to favor those
who throw the worm as their primary tackle. On the day 2 weigh in, it didn’t disappoint
with those in the right spots, loading up on the fat spots and
some largemouth as well. John Buck came in 1st
place throwing the worm in mid lake shorelines.
Other patterns that were interesting were dead ticking
a Fluke on mid to deep shorelines, small spooks or walking baits
in the early am and some spinner bait
action. We ended the
tournament catching 228 fish and nearly 473 pounds of Bass! This is more fish than we caught on Seminole
and Fish River. The weight
on Jordan was only 56 pounds less than the total weight of all
tournaments from November through Seminole so by any measurement,
it was a very successful tournament and I expect it will be
on our schedule for many years to come! Congrats John Buck, Tony Boyett
and John Kasic for the great tournament
finish!
Any questions should be addressed
to Sincerely, Ron Fairbanks Club Secretary |
