"From the desk of Fred Raby"

Lake Seminole was the site for our March 2009 tournament.  It really looked like we were on the right weather pattern for a good tournament.  Several members went down on Thursday to pre fish and the results were less than expected, a few more of us working men managed to get there on Friday and too the results could have been better.

Our accommodations at the Seminole Inn were pretty nice, however the parking left room for improvement.  Several of us brought grills and cooked out, and others tried the new Mexican Restaurant at Sneeds.  All reports were, the food was good and reasonably priced.

Saturday morning came early as there were several clubs thinking the same as we were, but all went pretty smooth at Seminole Lodge.  Everyone was launched and ready before the fog lifted, in fact we were all out early thanks to our GPS trails.  I gave up and started fishing before I got to my first spot.  Good idea, about the 3rd cast I put a 2 ponder in the boat on a swim bait!  We finally got into 4 foot ditch and boated another keeper, then lost a stud.  The fog was clearing by now and we went on up the ‘Hooch where I boated a 4.9 pounder on a Manns Jelly worm.  At the weigh in the catches were good and bad; most everyone had fish, but some only one or two and only 1 limit by Wayne T.  Cliffy came in with a monster 7.62 pounder.   A slight drop in temp and a rise in water level changed the bite for Sunday.  My fish went away…and so did many others.   A few people found limits John K and Wayne T (again) Lee B and Billy B.  At final tally Billy B took 3rd place with a total of 9 fish for 17.46 pounds, John K was 2nd with 9 weighing 19.23 and Wayne T was 1st with 10 fish for 19.63 pounds.  Congrats Wayne for a consistent catch.  Stump and Richie were 20th.

Most fish were caught on worms, no reports of top water, a few on cranks and spinner baits.  All in all a good tournament, and we were only a day away from the perfect timing for the big boys.

Keep your line wet!!
