"From the desk of Fred Raby"

Panhandle Bass club fished Millers Ferry for our June tournament.  The best way to put it is “cuz’ yu shouldda been here yesterday”!  Those who went up on Friday found so many fish they quit early and went back to the motel.

Although the bite was good until the sun came up on Saturday morning, then the high blues put the bass in lockdown.  About half of the club went up to enjoy the Friday bite, the rest, or almost the rest came up Saturday morning.  Unfortunately Chris had battery problems and could not make the 2:00 am departure.  We found the water a little high, a moderate stain in the water and naturally high blue skies with a light NE wind and a full moon.

As I said there were some good opportunities before the sun got up.  John B said he had caught 12 fish and 5 keepers by 7:30, Mack had a very similar bite and had his 7 fish limit, Walter and I had our chances with several good blow-ups on frogs early.  We over reacted and did not wait long enough to set the hook.  Big Rich had to get his fish early and managed a 7 fish limit before heading home for a family commitment, however with his mathematical challenges only gave 6 fish to Dora to weigh in for him, he carried a 2+ pounder home that would have won the tournament…does that spell HAMMER?

At weigh in we had 8 seven fish limits, and everyone caught fish.  Bobby S had 7 for 11.04 and took 3rd place, Tony was 2nd with 7 weighing 11.07, and Wayne T takes 1st again with 12.99 and big fish of 3.9, Big Rich was 4th with 6 for 10.98.  Fish were caught on frogs, finesse, and c-rigs for the most part.  Shad are beginning to ball up and we should see schoolies soon.

Next month we go to Holly Creek, always a good summertime choice.  Until then…

Keep your line wet!
