Bass Club fished
Friday fishing was very spotty. Not many fish reported and no patterns established. Bed fishermen were disappointed that only a few beds were found, the post spawn bite had not yet materialized. The water was great, temps in low 60’s, most everywhere was very fishable. Spring creek was reported to get more muddy as you got away from the river. Rich reported he and Stump had ‘em located!
Tournament day we found plenty of boats, other clubs and bed fishermen on the water. We managed to get out ahead of most, but they found us soon enough. The gators were starting to roam, but the fish were not biting for us. I found a bed and caught the male only to see the female leave and not return. It was a great event for Artie; he had never seen a bed before. A short time later he saw two bass on top of a stump doing their thing. We both worked on it for about an hour, when I finally caught the 3pound male. Weigh in was a little sparse. Just over 10 pounds was leading, and no ‘big’ fish.
Most of us grilled Saturday night, Artie brought about 15pounds of steaks for Walter and I, John B brought salad and we feasted. Lee and Jeff managed to get out of their King Size bed long enough to join us with their steaks and Steve M and his partner also joined in the feast. It was great and Walter and I had enough leftovers to have a great steak sandwich for Sunday.
Day two started with a bang for Walter, he had a ‘good one’ first thing. John B got back on his fish early and had high hopes. Many of us continued to struggle. I found a male guarding a bed and chasing shad off and tempted him with a frog. A nice 4.87lb fish. Sure enough we have a new ‘King Boo Ray’, Walter his morning and only bite was 6.93. Mitch brought in his limit again and took 3rd place with 20.91; John K took 2nd with 21.11 after threatening to go home Friday, and Steve Graham limited out both days for 1st with 21.46.
It was a great weekend to be on the water, no incidents and not a bad ride home. Keep fishing and keep your line wet!
