Panhandle Bass Club held it’s June tournament at Cooters Pond on the Alabama River with 21 of our 24 members participating.  Water levels had been extremely low but were up some.  Most of the club went up Friday to pre-fish and almost all had a productive day.  Several added to their recreation with a mini golf tournament at one of the local courses.

Saturday morning welcomed us to the promise of a HOT day.  Ken got started right by putting his boat on a sand bar before getting to the river, but Billy was there for the rescue.  Too bad Billy was not there when Ken could not get on a plane, maybe he could have removed the coke can from Ken’s hot foot.

The morning bite left room for improvement for me and Artie, while some reported a good start.  It was double HOT by 10:00, but my fish still did not cooperate.  I talked with John B and he had a slow start, so did Walter.  We worked our way up river looking for the bite, but no luck.  We ran into Mack, who had 6 keepers. Passed Cliffie on the run, then came a pretty hard thundershower.  Rich had pulled onto the bank just below us where he threw a buzz bait to land MR. BIG, a 5.15 boo ray fish.

At the weigh in there were a good number of fish caught, 20 of our 21 fishermen brought in keeper fish.  Mitch had a limit with 9.21 pounds for third place, Rich had 4 with 10.20 pounds for second and Mr. Wayne Thomley brought in a limit with 13.08 pounds to continue his streak in first place.  Most fish were caught on crank baits followed close by soft plastics.  All in all a good tournament, no major incidents and safe travels back home dodging thunderstorms.

Keep your line wet.
