Happy New Year!!
Panhandle
Bass Club held it’s first tournament of 2007 out of Cliffs Landing, Tensaw
River with 22 members present
and 6 guests. We had high water
and the threat of rain, but that does not stop us.
After watching Ken Repine try to launch his truck, we blasted off to
what could be a good day of fishing. Most
everyone headed south, looking for water in the banks.
A few boats went into Mifflin to find the water in the woods; some others
went north or to McReynolds.
Artie and I stopped in Byrne Lake and caught a couple of shorts…a while later we saw Donnie Wigen who had had one hit, no fish. Steve Graham came in after seeing the water in the woods in Mifflin and he was still looking. About that time my phone rang. It was John Buck, his son had just killed his first deer. An eight point, 175 pounds. John had not had a bite, but was excited for his son who I am sure was initiated by his uncle. Knowing that the water would be better, and hopefully the fishing too, we headed south. I hit the south end of Chucafee, then Crab, then 3 mile. We continued to find shorts but no keepers. Dora was looking for Artie since Wayne was on a diet, she was hungry. They had some fish in 3 mile and gave us some info for some cookies. We made the next bend to see John Kasic catch a nice keeper (any keeper was nice). Then ‘blow out the water’ Billy came in, blew past us, muddied the water and went on to the back only to turn around and blow back out.
At the weigh in we saw more fish than expected. There were 14 places filled though weights were low. June bug finesse seemed to be the ticket, a few were reported on cranks. Chris Malena had big fish 2.96, Wayne Thomley took 3rd with 6 fish, Mack had a limit and took 2nd, and Mitch Gardner took top honors with 6 fish weighing 9.06 pounds. Dewayne Kimbrough took the guest pot with 2 nice keepers.
A good day on the water, no rain and a decent number of fish caught. No major incidents, only 1 hammer nominee.
I would like to express my appreciation to everyone for the calls, kind thoughts, prayers and fruit and flowers for the passing of my dad. Words cannot express the appreciation for the support you have given. Thank you!
Keep your line wet.
