"Fred's Club Report" 2007 Season |

As usual, we had a beautiful week right up to the cold front Saturday! There were several members surprised by the cold and wind.
Twenty members showed up for this opportunity to demonstrate our fish catching abilities. I was approached by Billy and presented with the ‘skunk’ after my showing last month, but he said, “It will make you catch fish”. Well, I wasn’t too sure about that, especially after Walter called at 7:00 am and said he had two and lost a good one and I had not had a bite.
Everyone headed north (the only option on Fish River unless you have an Alabama Saltwater license), some peeling off in the pockets and creeks in the lower and mid river and most running up looking for that quick limit. Sure enough there were several people who found ‘my holes’ before I got there, but I managed to find some fresh water anyway. Too bad it did not have any fish. John called around 7:30 and had a ‘maybe’ in the boat, I saw John K about noon, he had one but did not know if it would bump. I did the courtesy and released that dink! He was ready to go home, I saw Ken he had 2, Richie said he had a limit. I finally found 2 and Artie lost a good one…line broke. Mack came down the river and said he had 5; Dan T said he had 1. There were some fish being caught, but it was scattered. Mine came on black and blue jigs, june bug finesse accounted for some and some were caught on a fluke.
At the weigh in we had 18 members with fish. We presented the ‘skunk’ to John Lightsee. Next month he gets the privilege of passing it on to some unfortunate who does not catch a fish. Steve Graham took 3rd place with 5 fish 6.60 pounds, Richie took 2nd 7 heavy fish 6.79 (a 0.97 average weight) and Mack won with 7 12.84 pounds.
All in all a good day on the water, more fish than expected. Sorry Chris Malena missed the tournament, his father died on Friday, Frank Bost also missed his mother has pneumonia and is not doing well.
Keep your line wet!
Fred
P. S. Springtime is a good time to check and clean your reels, check your bearings and bring everything up to ready for a good season of fishing.
