The
April tournament was changed from
There were about 16 members who said they would convoy up on Friday morning, only 3 showed. After a good breakfast some headed to the water, some checked in… Friday afternoon most everyone gathered at the days inn to exchange lies, take naps, play poker and arrange tackle. Fishing reports were scattered, but most everyone had caught fish on Friday, imagine that. Frank and John had the biggest stories; about 20 keepers each on crank baits. I found some on a rogue and on a buzz bait. Billy was long faced and said he would have to go to my hole to find his. It was cold Friday and the wind cut you in two, the forecast was for low 30’s for Saturday and 20 mph North wind.
It did not drop quite a low as predicted but the wind was relentless Saturday. I went to my fish and put one in the boat right away, as we worked the bank Artie caught one (gut hooked) and I boated a second keeper. The big tournament out of Millers Ferry had already started and some of their boats were on us. We saw them catch a couple behind us so we kept moving. We did not see any other boats from the club, but understood Richie went to Claiborne.
We saw a couple of deer, and a bald eagle. Put a couple more fish in the boat on cranks and ran into Frank and John. They had 4 or 5 each on cranks and worms. Then we watched Frank try to put his boat on a plane with the trolling motor down. ‘A little chilly for a shower’!
At the weigh in most everyone had fish. John Lightsey will be glad to present the skunk to a new eligible member. We had 5 limits; unfortunately Charles Loyed was disqualified for being late. He spun a hub and did not get in in time*. Rich Renner had big fish 3.04, John K took third with 8.57 pounds, Richie was second 10.20 and Billy (fishing my hole) won with 11.35 most were caught on cranks and buzz baits with plastics taking the rest.
*A reminder: If you have boat trouble it is permissible to have someone else bring in your fish.
Keep your line wet!
