Panhandle Bass Club fished Lay Lake for our March tournament. Of course we found the weekend with a cold front coming in. Several members went up on Thursday and found lots of big fish, Friday also proved to be a good day for most. Saturday we awoke to cold temps and strong North wind. Water temp was low 50's and the bite was off. There were several other tournaments, in fact we had about 70 boats out of the Lower Dam landing, so every spot was 'take a number'! When all was said and done, there were a good number of fish brought in. Reports were that most were caught on spot sticker or cranks. I managed 3 on cranks, there were three seven fish limits, Rich Renner, Chris Malena and John KasicMack and Rich Renner had good stringers as well as Pete and John Kasic.

Sunday am was much the same, not quite as much wind but still pretty strong, a little warmer and the sun brought the temps up quick. I went back to my bite and missed three right away…on spot sticker. Finally I boated a good keeper and Artie showed me how to lift a brush pile to the surface then break a rod. Another rod later and I told him to ask John Buck about the parabolic bend and fulcrum theory. We moved north to Waxahatchee and I immediately put another keeper in the boat on a red crank. I told Artie to throw down a log, and he watched the crank roll over the end and a good keeper follow…a classic strike and good fish. Finally at the weigh in we saw a lot of long faces… the bite had slowed from Saturday. Billy Blackwell brought in the only limit, Walter finished fourth…almost in the money. Mack ended up in third with 19.30, Billy second 19.43 and Rich Renner won with 21.45 for the two days.

We are getting better, only one nominee for the 'Hammer', Walter launched his boat without the plug, but he's got to come up with something better to stand a chance this year.

Keep Your Line Wet!!
