Once again we found ourselves on Tensaw, with a cold front, high water, high wind what a beautiful opportunity to go fishing! A record number of 20 boats and 26 fishermen showed up for our tournament in spite of the conditions we were facing.
Most ran south, several to Bay Minette Basin, some to Chucafee, and others scattered throughout the delta. Of course there were the ones who went to Red Creek…Artie and I found some fish early but too many of them were short we managed 3 keepers, then the tide started in and muddy water took over the small creek we were in. We checked with John and Walter and their days were slow also. We went to Burn Lake where we saw several other fishermen, I boated one keeper on a Sally when we saw a beautiful new Ranger coming our way…it was Mack, he only had 1 keeper and was headed out. We moved up to Nigger lake and I boated one more keeper on a junebug worm before we ran out of time.
At the weigh in there were several good bags but no limits. Five members brought in 5 each ranging from 6 to 9 pounds. Chris Malena took 3rd, Sarge a solid 2nd with 5 weighing 9.17 on a junebug brush hog, and Mr. New Ranger himself Mack was 1st with 5 weighing 9.18. Frank also had lunker. Talk at the weigh in most were on worms, a few on crankbaits. This one sure shakes up the standings. There are a couple of 'slumps' that are working on some heads, but we still have a long way to October.
