The Panhandle Bass Club held its May tournament on Millers Ferry Reservoir at Camden, Alabama. We found the water high and muddy with lots of new floaters in the river. Someone said the river was flowing just under 3 mph.

In spite of the high muddy water there were two limits brought in on Saturday and a total of 54 keeper bass by 17 fishermen. Saturday night we had a torrential thunderstorm that lasted almost all night. Several boats were full of water before launching Sunday morning. Once we got on the water we had another surprise, a two-hour thunderstorm with lightening and heavy rain. Everyone was able to find shelter of some sort and no one was hurt. In fact some people even found fish. Mack Cramer came in with a 13+ pound limit caught on a jig to finish second in the tournament. Troy Beedle finished first with a limit Saturday and four nice keepers Sunday.

The reports were scattered, most of the fish came from grassy areas with wood cover. Baits ranged from junebug lizards, to spinner baits, buzz baits with the most fish reported on jigs.

All in all it was a good tournament, the weather was a concern and several people went in early due to the storm. It was good to see several wives fishing with their husbands, that is one of the things that makes this club special.

Next month we go to Fort Stoddard on the Mobile River, hopefully the water will in better shape and make the fishing more enjoyable.

Keep Your Line Wet !!
