OLD BUSINESS:
Trophies and plaques were awarded to last season's top three and fisherman of the year. First place and "fisherman of the year" went to Fred Raby, Second place went to Lee Brannon and Third place went to Mack Cramer, congratulations .
Wally Cassiano auctioned off a nice pistol grip rod in wich Lee Brannon was the highest bidder, proceeds go to the club's special fund. Anyone in the club who has something they would like to have auctioned off please bring it to one of the meetings, remember, monies raised during the regular season goes toward the fish-off in October.
NEW BUSINESS:
Wayne Cox was voted into the club, welcome aboard Wayne, he was sponsored by Fred Raby.
Mack Cramer gave his proposed fish-off site information on "Toledo Bin". It's about a nine hour drive to a town called Zwolle, LA. Cabins will run approx. $65.00 per night, eight people to a cabin. Fishing License are $15.00 for a 4- day. Size limits on largemouth are 14", and spots are 12". You can figure on approx.
$100.00 for food based on a four day trip, gas would run approx a 100 to $130.00 round trip. It's about 460 miles one way. Rich Cornelius also gave some info on Picwic lake, out of Florence, AL. Hotels are 5 to 10 minutes from the launch, there are all kinds of places to eat around the hotels. The Holiday inn would probably be our best choice, there is plenty of parking space. We all already have an Alabama license so you don't have to worry about that. Picwic is full of big smallmouth and largemouth bass, if you have never experienced hooking into a smallmouth, you don't know what your missing. Picwic is approx a 6 hour drive one way. If anyone else has a proposed site that they would like to discuss, bring it up at the February meeting. The sooner we decide on a place the quicker we can make reservations. If we don't decide on a 4 day trip, the club will fish Lake Martin in October, wich is not a bad thing by no means. I think the club would enjoy someplace different though, so speak up at the next meeting. There was confusion at the Jan tournament about tournament fee's being paid. According to the rules, entry fee's must be paid prior to the tournament, from this point forward, all entry fee's must be paid at the meeting. If you know your going to fish the tournament but can't make the meeting, pick up the phone and call someone, another member could pay your entry fee for you and you could pay them back at the tournament, this makes the job for the treasurer much easier, and there's no confusion what-so- ever.
January Tournament:
The January tournament was held out of the swamphouse landing on the Escambia River,
there were 13 Panhandler's ready to get the day started at safe daylight. Most everyone fished the grass and a few went up river. The water was stained and the tide was outgoing. The upper escambia was flooded.
We all knew it would be a tuff day on the water, and we were right.
Only 8 fish were weighed in, for a total of 10.38 lbs. Big fish for the tournament weighed in at a whopping 1.79 lbs. Mack Cramer took big fish honors and first place for the tournament, his total weight was 3.97 lbs with 3 fish.
Tournaments like these are the kind we would all like to forget, but hey, that's fishing.
Beat's the heck out of honey do's and working though, huh.
