Tensaw River
Hurricane Landing

The monthly tournament for Panhandle Bass Club was held out of Hurricane Landing on the Tensaw River. We were scheduled to go to Fort Stoddard on the Mobile river but rising high water caused us to change the site.

We met at Hurricane to find biscuits, gravy and hot coffee waiting for us. The Perkins really treat us right having breakfast, helping launch and recover our boats and anything else they can do to show their appreciation for our business. There was a light fog when we got to the river and we all had to use a little extra caution at blast off. The talk at the landing was McReynolds Basin, Miffin, Dennis, Big Briar. Yours truly went into Big Briar and found heavy fog in the main run going in, so I started fishing. About 30 minutes went by and the fog began to lift, I had not had a hit so I moved back to my first target hole. I managed to catch a couple of shorties on top but it was very slow. We worked our way on back and I did manage a keeper in a creekmouth on a Spook but the bite was not what we wanted so we decided to run south. We hit a couple of spots on the river only to find nothing so we ran back to some creeks up river and did manage to find some activity. My partner put two keepers in the boat,
and I missed a couple of good fish.

At weigh in, we found it had been tough for most. Larry Foshee did find some fish and came in with 6 keepers including a 2.98 lunker to take first place. Second was taken by Wayne Tomley, and third went to Rich Cornelius. The reports were that most of Larry’s and Rich’s fish came from Tensaw lake on jigs and worms. Wayne was seen going into Miffin to find his fish also on a jig. Even though we had a few no shows it was a good day. No rain! So we complained about the heat instead.

Chris Malena had some engine problems and was restricted on where he could go. Wayne Cox slung a blade on his prop and had to limp back to the landing. Walter McCartney managed to get in without any blood shed and all of his digits intact, congratulations Walter, I am sure Poopsie is proud.

Next month we go to Demopolis for a two day. The excitement is building on going to a new place for our club and I am sure it will be a good trip. Until then....

Keep Your Line Wet !!
