OLD BUSINESS:

Fred and Troy did not have any info on club hats, they are still doing some research, trying to find the best deal we can get for a quality hat. They should have something for us at the May meeting.
For those who would like to write a letter to Steve Graham, his mailing address is as follows:

MA1 Stephen Graham
Fleet Hospital Three
FPO AA 34099-6600

I'm sure he would like to hear from us, when your deployed, receiving mail is a good thing.
We had a guest speaker at the April meeting, Craig Ammons from the (ECFD), Escambia County Fire Dept.
Topics discussed were flotation devices, tips on what to do in case of a medical emergency, CPR classes available at Sacred Heart, and I.D. cards which contains personal health information. It was very interesting to hear what Craig had to say and we all enjoyed it, thanks to Craig Ammons from the Panhandle Bass Club and also to Fred Raby for setting it up. There was nothing brought in to be auctioned off, maybe next time.

NEW BUSINESS:

Just so everyone knows, tournament fee's for a ( one-day) is $25.00 plus $5.00 towards the big fish pot.
( Two-day ) tournaments are $25.00 plus $10.00 towards the big fish pot.
No other new business was discussed.

April Tournament:

The weather forecasted for the weekend called for scattered showers and mild temp's. The lake level was about 2 feet below full pool, the water temp ranged from about 63 to 68 degree's depending on where you were on the lake, and the water clarity was light stained to clear. The wind at times was somewhat of a problem, but nothing like it could have been considering the size of the lake. On day one, we took off kind of early to get away from the Shriners tournament that was being held out of Wind Creek.
Some went south and some stayed up north, everyone was thinking that the top water bite would be great considering what the water temp was, but as it turned out, there wasn't much of a top water bite at all for most.
It was one of those days where you had to be in the right place at the right time, using the right bait. There was a lot of fish caught though, mostly on plastics, some on spinner baits.
Come weigh-in time, 8 limits of fish were weighed in. Fred Raby had a very nice limit the first day that weighed 14.42 lbs that included the big fish for day one that tipped the scales at 5.22 lbs.
Chris Malena followed with a limit that weighed 13.18 lbs, good enough for second place on day one and Dave Dyess took third on day one with a nice limit which weighed in at 10.87 lbs.
Day two started out with some high expectations, but as it turned out, the bite was much tougher than day one for most. There were only two limits caught on Sunday. Wayne Cox was the only one with a limit for both days, good job Wayne. The top water bite panned out for some on day two, and the plastics didn't work like they did the day before. It seemed like time just flew by on Sunday, probably because of the 1 p.m. weigh-in.
At the weigh-in, Rich Cornelius weighed in 6 fish with a weight of 13.82 lbs, followed closely by Cliff Armstrong with a limit that weighed 12.97 lbs, who also had the day two big fish which weighed 3.98 lbs, good job Cliff.
Wayne Thomley come in third on day two with six fish that weighed 10.20 lbs. Dave Dyess had a limit to be weighed in but unfortunately was disqualified for being late to the weigh-in.
For the tournament overall, Rich Cornelius took first place with a total weight of 23.22 lbs,
Fred Raby finished a close second with 20.89 lbs and Wayne Cox came in third with 19.33 lbs.
Lake Martin is a great fishery and there is always a lot of fish caught when we go there, some of us can't wait to go back. You can always count on one color of plastics to catch fish on, green pumpkin works every time.
